Munster part three
30 October 2005

This is my last post of the tank museum in Munster. I have still more pictures, but I think this should suffice now.

This is the 8,8 cm Flak "Acht-acht" anti-aircraft gun.

The 8,8 cm was not only a anti-aircraft gun, this famous weapon had also success as a antitank gun.

My grandfather has destroyed with the 8,8 two airplanes and several Russian T-34 tanks. My grandfather serve at the west front until the bullet of a Frenchman pierced his shoulder.
At the eastern front he was very heavily wounded, a toe was torn off and a rifle bullet was in his lung.
Because he was damaged very strongly, he had to work in an ammunition factory.
In the year 1944 he was drawn again and heavily wounds from an American hand grenade.
The fragments from the grenade couldn't be removed and he lived with them till he died some years ago.

This is the Russian T-34 /85 tank. The T-34 /85 had a 85mm gun.

This is a German 2cm anti-aircraft cannon 38 L/65. These cannon had the calibre 20mm x 138 and was fed from a magazine which held 20 rounds. It fires theoretical 480 rounds/min and 220 rounds/min practical. The 2cm cannon was produced 1939 - 1944.

This is a Kettenkrad Typ NSU HK-101. On the left side from the picture you can see the VW Typ 166.

Crew: 1 soldiers and 2 passenger Years of production: 1940 - 1944 Total number produced: 8345 Speed: 70km/h

This is the passenger car Volkswagen Typ 166. It has a cruising range on the road about 500 kilometer and was a amphibious vehicle. Years of production: 1942 - 1944 Total number produced: 14283 Speed: 80km/h road and 10km/h water

This is the medium armoured personnel carrier Sd.Kfz. 251/7 version D (Armoured engineer vehicle).
Crew: 7/8 soldiers Armament: 1x handheld anti-tank rocket launcher 39 with forty rounds. 2x MG-34 or MG-42 with 4500 rounds.

This is the medium armoured personnel carrier Sd.Kfz. 251/9 version D "Stummel"(stump)
Crew: 3 soldiers Armament: 7,5cm tank-gun 37 L/24 with 52 rounds. 2x MG-34 or MG-42 with 2500 rounds.

This is the Field Marshal Baton from Field Marshal Guenther von Kluge.

This is the legendary MG-42. My grandfather and the other German soldiers called the MG-42 "Knochensaege"(bone saw). The lower weapon is visually almost identical with the MG-42, but the weapon was modified and is called MG-3. My grandfather used the MG-42, my father and I the MG-3.

This is the Sturmgewehr 44. The photos under the weapon show the "Krummer Lauf", a bent barrel with a periscope sighting device for shooting around corners from a position of safety.

Many pistols and revolver...

As always, the pictures can be looked big, with a click on the pic.

Munster part two
28 October 2005

Here are further pictures from the tank museum in Munster.

On the right side of this picture is the uniform from the German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and his death mask. On the left side is the uniform from General Heinz Guderian.

This is a very rare Sturmtiger and only 18 of those were produced.

His armament was a 380 mm mortar and at the mortar had a recoil of 30 tons!

A round weight 345 kilo, including a high explosive charge of 125 kg TNT. Only two Sturmtiger survived the war.

This is a Jagdpanther, it is a very late type and was produced in March 1945.

These Jagdpanther had much damage by bombardment with heavy weapons.

The Panther was captured by British troops.

This is a Sturmgeschuetz III G.

It was produced in Dezember 1944.

These Sturmgeschuetz was later captured by US troops.

This is a Jagdpanzer IV Versuchsfahrzeug(prototype).

This vehicle was also called Panzerjaeger 39.

This is a Jagdpanzer IV F.

These Jagdpanzer IV is coated with Zimmerit.

This is a Jagdpanzer 38 "Hetzer"

The Swiss army used the Jagdpanzer 38 until the year 1972 and the vehicle was called G13.

This is the American Sherman M4A4 tank.

Here is a further picture

I will write still another and last post, with further vehicles.

Last week I was in the German tank museum in the city Munster. On Monday I wanted to drive with a friend but Martin has canceled. I have nevertheless driven with my two nephews. On Thursday Martin has spoken on the phone to me and asked whether I come along on Friday. The museum is very big, you needed more time than one day to look at everything and therefore I have gone once again.

I show photos of four well known German tanks in this post. Within the next days I show further and even rarer German tanks. In addition photos of the uniform from Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and many many more...

It was manufactured in September 1942 ansd served with the 15. Panzerdivision in North Africa.

The tank was captured by British troops in the end of 1942.

It is a leader tank with radio equipment.

France sold the "Panther" in 1946 to Sweden. The tank served until the year 1961 in the Swedish Army.

serious crime
09 October 2005

In my previous post I mentioned a serious crime this happened in the bunker. A very popular discotheque was there, a criminal was under the guests and ignited a hand grenade on April 29th, 2000. Over 1500 people had celebrated there and nine people got perilous injured.

Some days later the criminal Cueneyt D. was arrested and the delinquent has confessed. He confessed to to have ignited a Yugoslavian M 75 hand grenade, but he has refused every further statement. Cueneyt didn't show repentance and derided his victims in the courtroom. The injured have physical problems and live today with many small shell splinters in their bodies. The victims should get solatium, altogether 25.000,- euro. The criminal doesn't have money and therefore there was nothing at all...

Assumedly wanted the drug dealer Cueneyt take revenge and therefore this cowardly attempted murder. He originally comes from Istanbul and was known as assault and drug dealer. This criminal lives in Hamburg since 1987 and was sentenced for thirty-three crimes to the year 2000!

In Germany such dangerous criminals are punished very hard and he must for a long time into a prison. "sarcasm"

He was sentenced to twelve years and nine months custody! This disgusting scum lives now at the expense of the taxpayers and will dismiss at the latest in the year 2012. Then he can further traffic in drugs and attack innocent people.

That is Germany!

Flaktower IV
04 October 2005

Today I show photos of the Flaktower IV from the district St. Pauli in Hamburg. I have taken the pictures last week. This is one of the biggest ever built bunker.
The bunker has a length and width of 70,5 meter and he has a height of 39 meter. He has a wall thickness of 3,5 meter and the blanket thickness is 5 meter. The bunker was built in 1942 and eight anti-aircraft cannons 12,8 cm were on the building. He had an independent water and power supply and even a hospital. Eighteen thousand people found refuge here at air raids.

I stand directly on the Heiligengeistfeld, the Hamburger Dom is on this place repeatedly in the year. On my left side starts the famous Reeperbahn in a distance of four hundred meters.

Actually the bunker should be blown up 1946, but the plan was rejected. Almost the complete living space from the city was destroyed and windows were installed. Many people could live after the war into this bunker.

In 1992 the building was sold and the camouflage was removed.

In the district Wilhelmburg in Hamburg is another Flaktower as on my photos. A soldier of the gun crew reports in this link from his experiences.
The links are in English unless of the Hamburger Dom.

Some years ago a serious crime happened in the bunker, I report from it later.

Friday evening

I have played billiard with my buddy Matthias on Friday evening. We have drink some Jack Daniels whiskey, although I find this drink disgusting and I have actually won all games.
At the last game it got boring and I have played the black billiard ball deliberately to the wrong hole.

I have only written this entry since I have promised it to Jen.

war graves
03 October 2005

After I have been in Hamburg last week, I took some pictures in our city on the cemetery. This cemetery wasn't used as of 1943, as of this year only persons were buried in family graves. Many war graves here are from the World War I, the graves of German soldiers from the World War II were leveled

The chapel was built in 1888, the design reminds of Gothic buildings with Romance elements.

The way with the old trees leads into the back part of the cemetery.

This memorial stone stands at the end of the way of the previous picture.

Here rests my dear son, our dearest brother

Grenadier Herm. Schmidt

Sturmbataillon 4 2. Kompanie

born: November 21st, 1898

died: July 8th, 1918

at his injury got on April 10th, 1918

our love follows you

This memorial stone shall remind of forty Russians who have died in the war in our city. At this place were originally the graves of four hundred German soldiers from the Word War II.

Your sons killed in action in the World War 1914-18

The grateful homeland

You can read the names of many killed soldiers on the two sides and the back. A mother from our city has lost all her four sons in the war.

These stairs lead to a hill on which another memorial stone stands. The stone is very weathered and you can hardly read the names, but he also dates from the World War I.

The memorial stone reminds of a completely destroyed company and many of the killed soldiers were from our city.

A look from the view of the memorial stone. The next picture shows the grave of a soldier from the World War II. It lay behind high bushes and was overlooked as the other graves was leveled.

To remember on

Gefreiten Fried. Hackmack

born: September 28th, 1922

died: October 8th, 1943

He died for Fuehrer and Vaterland

How always, click on the photos to zoom in.
