Munster part two
28 October 2005

Here are further pictures from the tank museum in Munster.

On the right side of this picture is the uniform from the German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and his death mask. On the left side is the uniform from General Heinz Guderian.

This is a very rare Sturmtiger and only 18 of those were produced.

His armament was a 380 mm mortar and at the mortar had a recoil of 30 tons!

A round weight 345 kilo, including a high explosive charge of 125 kg TNT. Only two Sturmtiger survived the war.

This is a Jagdpanther, it is a very late type and was produced in March 1945.

These Jagdpanther had much damage by bombardment with heavy weapons.

The Panther was captured by British troops.

This is a Sturmgeschuetz III G.

It was produced in Dezember 1944.

These Sturmgeschuetz was later captured by US troops.

This is a Jagdpanzer IV Versuchsfahrzeug(prototype).

This vehicle was also called Panzerjaeger 39.

This is a Jagdpanzer IV F.

These Jagdpanzer IV is coated with Zimmerit.

This is a Jagdpanzer 38 "Hetzer"

The Swiss army used the Jagdpanzer 38 until the year 1972 and the vehicle was called G13.

This is the American Sherman M4A4 tank.

Here is a further picture

I will write still another and last post, with further vehicles.

I've got to give the Germans a lot of respect for their engineering skills! Some of the stuff is absolutely brilliant and far outmatched the allies (especially in the early stages of the war).

If I can remember properly - I think Australia has German tanks at the moment! Leopards or something...

Brilliant photos Stephan, it's very interesting... certainly some history class I haven't learnt at school.

Thank you G!

Australia have Leopard 1 tanks, that is right. In these Wikipedia link you can see a picture from a Australian Leopard.

I didn't even realized you'd posted these already. They're great. I especially like the one with Rommel's uniform. What a rare item to have in a museum!

Thanks at all!

@Calcarus - I write the last post today.

@Mauser*girl - Rommel's uniform is rare and they have another highlight, the Field Marshal Baton from Field Marshal Guenther von Kluge.

@Porter - The museum has only very few American tanks. I was in an old M-48 and it was very narrow in it, the German army also had this American tank.

The M1A1 or A2 would be my greatest wish... :(
